The millions of fans who watched Elvis Presley’s famed 1968 “comeback” special on NBC got a few surprises. One may have been how great the performances were and how well the show was received, and the appreciation with which is remembered. Another was what is now called the “unplugged” segment of program, during which The King played some of his bigger hits (and some lesser-known tracks) in the round, in a stripped-down arrangement with his band. Since the show initially aired on Dec. 3, the mix included the holiday chestnut, “Blue Christmas.”
